How AskCatGPT Became The People's AI Person

+ how to find the white space in your niche before your competition.

Over the last year, AI content has been one of the fastest growing categories across social media.

You’ve probably seen this chart breaking down AI adoption👇🏻

The big takeaway: Even though it feels like AI content is everywhere, only ~.3% of humanity has paid to use AI.

CatGPT built her following of 850K+ helping explain AI to the other 99.7%.

And her content strategy is crushing…

Everything about her account is plain English conversations about how AI works, delivered like you’re talking to a friend over drinks.

Case in point: her bio literally says, “I help you navigate this whole AI thing.”

She's an AI educator who validates AI skepticism, and a tech person who throws no-phone parties in LA. On paper her content is a walking contradiction.

In the data, it's a god-tier strategy, because the skeptics are 84% of the market and she's virtually the only one serving them.

Here's what the data says about how she put her own spin on the most saturated topic on the internet…

How AskCatGPT Turned AI Skeptics Into An Audience

From the outside looking in, people who don’t spend time analyzing Instagram would say Cat's account works because “she is the niche”.

In reality, she’s an AI educator, a digital wellness advocate, a boundaries expert, and does all that with the delivery of a deadpan comic.

But underneath her videos, every topic, format, and hook is making the 84% of people who haven’t touched generative AI feel like this shiny new corner of the internet is for them.

Her topics meet people where the resistance is

She’s doing volume with 3rd-grade level content about AI Tools which make up 30 of her last 100 posts at 383K average views.

Her most own-able territory is Digital Wellness which makes up just 18 of her last 100 posts at 559K average, anchored by her no-phone party post (3.2M views, 11.4x)

But her smallest bucket of boundaries & career is where the greatest outliers lie. She’s got just 6 posts averaging 5.4M views at a 29.9x outlier.

One of those posts is the the 28.8M view, 161.5x outlier on not being a people pleaser, with a follow-up that did 2.2M

Turning down unpaid work and setting boundaries at your job isn't AI content at all, but it works because it’s hitting on the anxiety underneath the AI anxiety: that when everything is an opportunity, you have to say yes to everything. Her POV is you don’t, and she's one of the only creators in the niche speaking to it.

Her formats put the person before the topic

Her workhorse is the breakdown explainer, making up 26 posts, but her nuclear option is the skit with 6 posts at 5.3M average views.

Cat is also very funny, which is a huge competitive advantage.

Her hooks disarm before they teach

She validates your resistance before lecturing you, and that one move is why her AI content outperforms creators screen-sharing their vibe coded apps.

Here's how we pulled all of Cat's best performing videos on Sandcastles.

How To Find White Space In Your Niche With The Sandcastles Ideas Tab

So much of what makes Cat's content work is that she found the white space in the most crowded niche on Instagram and occupied it before anyone else noticed it was empty.

Most people think finding the white space requires some stroke of genius. It doesn't. It requires seeing what's already winning and asking what your unique version could be.

The Ideas tab in Sandcastles can help with this. Here’s how to run it:

Step 01 — In Sandcastles, go to the Ideas tab and sort your inbox by outlier score. These are the best performing videos that you’ve deep analyzed from your watchlist, ready to review as potential new ideas for you.

Step 02 — Review one idea at a time. For each one, you can watch the video, read about it, then decide if it’s a yes or a no. Choose “shortlist” if you have something interesting to say about the topic. Choose “discard” if you don’t.

A secret feature that not many people know about is that every shortlisted idea comes with 3 alternate angles for how to remix the topic for your specific niche.

To get these remixed Idea options:

  • Add your background info in the Persona tab (to give Sandcastles context)

  • Press “Shortlist” on any idea

  • Scroll to the bottom of the idea analysis

Step 03 — When an idea sparks something, hit edit and drop your thoughts in the notes sections ("I'd make this but spend more time on X"). When you press create script, your notes come with you as a customized prompt. This lets you scan 50 ideas in one session and capture your notes while in flow.

Step 04 — Set up an automation so your Ideas queue never runs dry.

Go to Automations and turn on the default rule that any video from your watchlist above a 1x outlier score, 25k views, and 2% engagement gets auto-analyzed and dropped into your inbox (set a max daily limit at 3 to avoid burning through all your credits). From now on, fresh ideas are waiting in the Ideas tab every time you log in.

Every day, you could spend 10 minutes ripping through 30 ideas and have your whole content calendar for the month dialed.

Your 99% Is Still Wide Open

The bottom line is that Cat actually doesn’t have better prompts, earlier access, or deeper technical credentials than other AI creator you follow…

She just noticed who everyone else was ignoring and made content for those people…the underserved.

Every saturated niche has a “99%” the underserved audience that the core experts are missing. Find yours and you’ll own a unique lane in your niche.

The creators winning right now found their version of the 99%, and the data to find yours is sitting in public view on every account in your space.

Sandcastles helps you see what's working, spot what's missing, and occupy the big blue ocean before someone else notices it's empty.
